Polestar Pilates New Zealand, established in 2002, brings the global Polestar instruction and certification program in Pilates-evolved techniques for fitness and rehabilitation professionals to New Zealand.

Polestar is an international community of research‐oriented movement science professionals, transferring advanced knowledge to our clients to improve health and well‐being through the
application of Pilates and various methodologies of movement science.

Polestar Pilates® offers Movement education based on a scientific foundation of anatomy, physiology, biomechanics and motor control. We integrate scientific research findings in the areas of orthopedics, sports medicine and movement science. Polestar educators individually hold advanced degrees in a variety of movement modalities.

The Polestar Pilates curriculum, designed by Physiotherapist and Orthopaedic Certified Specialist Brent Anderson, is based on a scientific foundation, as opposed to an anecdotal one.

Polestar has Pilates instructor representation in over 50 countries, and education centers located in nearly 40 countries. Polestar Education was co-founded in Sacramento California in 1992 by aforementioned President and CEO Dr. Brent Anderson PhD, PT, OCS.

We offer courses and continuing education workshops, masterclasses etc. online and in-person year-round.

Polestar Anatomy

Before you begin any of our courses, you will need a basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology. If you do not yet have a reasonable knowledge then we suggest you complete this online course first.

Polestar Anatomy is one of our most requested courses by our graduates and students. This 8-hour course is specifically designed as an introduction to muscle skeleton anatomy for movers and movement teachers and will prepare you for any of the Polestar certification courses.

There are NO prerequisites for this course which has been especially developed for:

  • Anyone that wants to start a professional Pilates course
  • Personal trainers and group exercise instructors
  • Instructors of movement arts such as dance, yoga looking to start a career in Pilates
  • Anyone that want to refresh their Anatomy knowledge

Mat Series

 

The Pilates Mat course enables physical therapy professionals to incorporate mat-based Polestar Pilates-evolved exercises into their rehabilitation programs.

Programme design and exercise sequencing are addressed for group formats and one-on-one training. Theory and practice of Polestar principles and instruction techniques are applied to each exercise. Verbal, tactile and combined cueing practices are addressed to facilitate motor learning.

The Pilates Mat course can be completed completely online, OR as a combination of virtual online and in-person sessions.

Reformer

 

Want to get the most out of the Pilates Reformer? The Polestar Pilates Reformer Series is designed for you! Physical therapists, personal trainers, group instructors and their clients are reaping the benefits of the work of Joseph Pilates with this versatile piece of equipment.

The Reformer Series teaches the practical skills needed to become proficient with assessment techniques, Pilates reformer exercises, movement sequences and the application of the Polestar principles.

The Pilates Reformer course can be completed completely online, OR as a combination of virtual online and in-person sessions.

Comprehensive

 

The Polestar Comprehensive course provides a unique environment for licensed and certified Rehabilitation Professionals to receive in-depth instruction in Pilates rehabilitation principles, teaching techniques, self-mastery and practice, and for Fitness Leaders & Pilates enthusiasts to become a certified Pilates Studio teacher.

Master over 130 Pilates exercises across a full spectrum of apparatuses, including Reformer, Trapeze Table, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Spine Corrector and props. By learning a comprehensive repertoire of movement techniques, you can continuously provide and refresh your clients with goal-oriented movement experiences.

The hybrid course consists of online learning modules followed by in-person labs and virtual discussions that allow you to evaluate the practical applications of Pilates exercises, develop assessment techniques, understand movement sequences, and modify exercises and programs for individuals.

Each student will receive comprehensive didactic and theoretical review and practical training using a clinical reasoning approach; instruction in teaching techniques, Pilates exercise benefits, self mastery and practice is all included.

Continuing Education

 

Throughout the year Polestar Pilates NZ and Polestar Pilates International organise a multitude of master classes, workshops, courses and information sessions in various New Zealand locations and/or online via Zoom.
